a bit of a break

Its been a lot of fun, I have learnt a great deal and have been so lucky to work with amazing brides that appreciate flowers as much as I do

I had my last wedding for the season this weekend. Although I have a few weddings over the next six months I will certainly have too much time between weddings and so will miss creating bqs that are soft and scented and seeing the brides faces light up when I deliver the flowers to them.

My passion for wedding flowers has certainly grown over the last three months of creating the weddings I have had. I feel very thankful that I was chosen to create their flowers and by doing so they have given me a head start into starting my own business.

As some of you may know I am not yet married and I have felt a little weary launching into wedding flowers solo as I haven't yet experienced all the stress and planning that the bride goes through to create her " dream " day. Over the last three months I feel like I have learnt so much about the wedding world and most importantly the real value of what a wedding is about. I have seen brides be excited to being really nervous and very stressed out to completely relaxed as all that matters on the day is how much you want to stand by your partner and celebrate your love with everyone.

The flowers are important too ... he he he

I wish to thank all the brides I have worked with so far

Thank you for the experience and the beautiful chats we had over coffee planning the flowers. I wish you all a happy ever after ending and I sincerely hope you fall further into love everyday.

Now three weeks break...

what to do?

Perfect white wedding

A wedding of perfect white flowers, doesn't it sound beautiful!

This weekend I have a wedding for a lovely bride who wants white flowers all round. I was amazed to see buckets of Peonies available this week - in perfect condition! The markets were still slim pickings for the season with very little variety available but I got everything I needed to make a beautiful set of flowers for this wedding.

I sourced imported Iceberg Roses and the lucky last bunch of white lisianthus for the season, just for me. Hydrangea wasnt around :( much to my disappointment - but ho hum hopefully I will get to use them in another wedding.

I ordered disbuds in white and was told that the supplier had to terminate his crops for the season - poor flowers! however thankfully another local grower had a perfect three bunches sitting and waiting for me ( or so I believe )

The fridge looks amazing filled with all those white, fresh and crisp flowers and I cant wait to see her face light up when she sees those peonies all open and feathery to look stunning on her wedding day.

I used Peonies last weekend with a wedding and although they looked great - the Peonies I gathered this week are outstanding in quality and have a really sweet fresh smell to them which I know will make the bride gush with excitement.

Photos to follow.... This will be one of the last weddings for the season :( winter in West Australia is mild but often wet so frequently that weddings are held in the cooler months just before winter hits. Therefore I will make the most of this wedding being the last of the season. I certainly hope to have a few during the winter as every season brings new flowers and I will miss making flowers every weekend :(

Flowers with friends

Viv and I were busy creating these whimsical centre pieces for a wedding last weekend. So much colour and such beautiful blooms to work with.

Need inspiring?

I had heard of Martha Stewart creating a wedding site so I thought I would have a look and I was in awe at the beautiful BQ's she had on her catalogue.

Everyone should check this website out:

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did....

My favourite flower for May

These bubbly and bright balls brings so much delight to a bunch of flowers. They are very sweet and are now being used in weddings regularly this season. The sunshine yellow brings a very fun and child like feeling to the flower world which is why its my favourite for this month. They are an expensive flower here in Australia at around $12 for 10 stalks which makes them extra special.

Craspedia ( Billy Buttons ) are native to Australia and New Zealand where they grow in a variety of habitats from sea level to the alps.  They flower from a type of Daisy plant and there are 23 different species.
